33 1/3 Book Series

Bloomsbury

33 1/3 is a beloved series of short books about popular music. Focusing on individual albums by artists ranging from James Brown to Celine Dion and from J Dilla to Neutral Milk Hotel, each volume in the 33 1/3 series provides a platform for authors to obsessively explore a piece of music without restriction. Each album covered in the series occupies such a specific place in music history, so each book-length treatment is different.

In addition to providing a platform for experienced music journalists, music scholars and talented first-time authors to publish work under the umbrella of Bloomsbury, the 33 1/3 series creates space for artists that wouldn’t necessarily warrant a big bestselling biography to get the critical treatment and recognition they deserve. Jonathan Lethem, Colin Meloy, Daphne Brooks, Gina Arnold and Alan Warner are just some of the 100 authors who have contributed to the ever-expanding series so far. The 33 1/3 series is celebrating its 10th anniversary with the publication of the 100th volume in September of 2014.
