For his sophomore album Birds Of Paradise, Dollbaum assembled a band that includes Lenderman, multi-instrumentalist Josh Halper, and the Convenience's Nick Corson. They learned and recorded the tracks with producer/engineer Clay Jones over the course of four days at Dial Back Sound in Water Valley, Mississippi.

The transfixing “In Blue” marked the project’s first single, and today we’re getting a follow-up tune titled “Burst” that sounds a bit tenser, with more disconnect between the wailing, reverb-drenched guitars and the gentle lilt of the vocals. As the band explains, the track is about feeling overwhelmed by “all the possibilities of identity,” or the struggle to know which life path to follow. “‘Burst’ is inspired by the fig tree metaphor in The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath,” the band notes. “The fig tree represents all the different lives the protagonist could live. Each fig is a future—artist, wife, intellectual, mother—and the tragedy is that she wants all of them. But by refusing to choose, the figs rot and fall. Ambivalence isn’t neutral, it’s destructive.”

“I think that if not the space of the room then definitely the location, being out in the country is important to the song”, says Justin Morris, the lead singer, songwriter and guitarist from Sluice. He is on the road with US band Fust, calling from a service station between shows in London and Bristol. It is fitting to talk about upcoming single “Beadie” whilst Morris is away from home. The song evokes a sense of stillness against the movement of life, a feeling of time moving forward whilst you stand still and try to take stock of what has, and continues, to happen."

“I Thought Love Meant” the second single from Hopeful Woman is out today!
I started writing this song almost three years ago. Perhaps at the time I thought I was having this “a-ha!” moment, thinking I was finally understanding *love*. But the funny thing about love is that i’m always trying to make sense of it. I imagine it as this little glow that sort of moves around…shaping and expanding, shrinking or hiding itself again and again, all to my own ever changing self. Maybe i’m getting better at accepting the mystery of it. More to say on all of that…but for now, watch this beautiful video @spncklly and I and crew made with the ephemeral tundra swans. I’m so happy with how this one turned out. Somehow it all fell into place exactly how it should. 🪽

Here she is ~ the first single “Never Left Me” off of my new record Hopeful Woman has arrived. Out in full on March 6th on Dear Life Records. Music video directed and edited by Spencer Kelly @spncklly (thanks for meeting me in NYC to help fulfill my big city music video dream).

This new collection truly feels the most *me* and I couldn’t be more proud of what my friends and I made. Hopeful Woman is really just the beginning of something I’ve been trying to encompass for a long time.

And lastly, i’m going on tour overseas for the first time in May! I’ll be opening for @raylamontagne in Ireland and the UK and I can’t quite believe this one… incredibly honored and grateful for this experience. Still pinching myself. More on that soon.
